Terms and conditions
These terms cover classes, milongas and private lessons with NY Tango School, and the use of this website. Last updated 7 September 2026.
Who we are
NY Tango School, run by Jon Tariq, teaching Argentine tango in Manhattan and northern New Jersey. Reach us on 917-825-0620.
Classes and attendance
Group classes are drop-in. There is no booking system and no ticket to buy in advance — turn up at the time listed and pay at the door, or pay ahead and turn up. You do not need a partner; partners rotate through every group class.
Please arrive on time. Tango classes build through the hour, and joining late is disruptive for you and for everyone else.
Class levels are guidance, not gatekeeping, but they are there for a reason. Where a class states that prior experience is required, please respect it.
Schedule changes
Times, venues and teachers can change, and occasionally a class is cancelled — weather, holidays, a venue becoming unavailable. The schedule on this website is the authoritative version and is updated first. We are not able to reimburse travel or other costs arising from a change.
Prices and payment
Prices are as shown on the classes and private lessons pages. Payment is accepted at the door, or in advance by Venmo or PayPal using the links on those pages. Prices may change; the price shown on this site at the time you pay is the price that applies.
Class packages
Multi-class packages are for the named person and are not transferable or shareable. Any validity period is as stated at the time of purchase. Packages have no cash value.
Private lessons
Private lessons are arranged directly with Jon. If you need to move or cancel a booked lesson, tell us as far ahead as you can. Lessons cancelled at very short notice, or missed without notice, may be treated as taught.
Refunds
If we cancel a class you have already paid for, you may take the value as credit against another class or ask for a refund. Otherwise, refunds are at our discretion — talk to us and we will deal with it sensibly.
Your health, and your own risk
Dancing is physical activity. You take part at your own risk, and you are responsible for judging whether you are fit to do so. If you have an injury, a medical condition, or are pregnant, please take advice from your doctor and tell your teacher before class. Stop if something hurts.
To the fullest extent the law allows, NY Tango School is not liable for injury, illness, or loss of or damage to personal property occurring at a class, milonga or private lesson. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
Conduct and the embrace
Tango is danced in a close embrace, and that only works where everyone feels safe. Anyone is free to decline a dance, at any time, without giving a reason. Harassment or unwanted contact of any kind is not tolerated, and we may ask anyone to leave, without refund, for behaviour that makes the room unsafe or unpleasant.
Photography and filming
We sometimes photograph and film classes, milongas and performances, and use that material to promote the school, including on social media. If you would rather not appear, tell your teacher before the class or event and we will keep you out of shot.
Personal belongings
Venues are shared spaces. Please keep your belongings with you; we cannot take responsibility for items left unattended.
